After oral application of copper and copper oxide nanoparticles increased levels of copper in liver and kidney were measured.

However, a confirmation of the presence of nanoparticles (NP) in the tissue is missing due to the solubility of copper (oxide) NPs. Copper (Cu) and copper oxide (CuO) particles induced hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic effects after application of high doses but the biological responses may be due to their Cu ion release [1,2,3].
