What exactly are nanoparticles? What is meant by “exposure”? When do toxicologists speak of a risk? This and many more questions regarding research on safety aspects of nanomaterials are answered here: www.nanoobjects.info
On June 24th 2013, the Final Report of the Dialogforum Nano of BASF 2011/2012 “Transparency in communication on nanomaterials from the manufacturer to the consumer” was published in Brussels.
More than 150 participants from all stakeholder groups discussed the recommendations for improving transparency and information from the manufacturer to the consumer.
The key contribution of the Dialogforum was a questionnaire titled "seven questions for the supply chain" aiming at building up reliable information in companies. By sending the questionnaire to their suppliers, retailers and OEMs the companioes were able to compile and structure the necessary information required for a consumer-oriented communication.
In addition, the Dialogforum participants developed specific recommendations for two application examples – textiles, paints and varnishes – and made suggestions on the form and contents of good consumer communication.
Following up several members gave insights into the Dialogforum’s work. "We have learned to listen", summarised Iris Wolf the atmosphere of the mutual learning process over the past two years. Finally the Dialogforum’s recommendations were discussed vividly by the audience and the invited guest panellists.
